FOUNDATIONS OF LEARNING: An Overview Of Educational Theories

In modern educational practice, understanding various learning theories is very important for educators, prospective teachers, and education practitioners in order to design effective, relevant learning strategies that are tailored to the needs of students. Through this book, the author attempts to present a systematic theoretical study of several major theories that have influenced the development of educational science, namely Behaviorism, Cognitivism, Constructivism, Social Learning Theory, Sociocultural Theory, and Connectivism. Each chapter in this book is written by a different author, according to their field of study and scientific focus. The first chapter discusses Behaviorism theory, which focuses on behavior and reinforcement through habituation. The second chapter outlines Cognitivism theory, which explains the role of mental processes in learning. The third chapter describes Constructivism theory, which emphasizes the active process of learners in constructing knowledge. The fourth chapter explores Social Learning Theory, which links learning to observation and social interaction. The fifth chapter discusses Sociocultural Theory, which highlights the influence of culture and social context on cognitive development. Finally, the sixth chapter reviews Connectivism as a digital age learning theory that places technology and information networks as an integral part of the learning process.
